Decorating the Orangery Part One

DSC_1001

The Orangery is finally decorated and I am so pleased with it. We were really lucky to be working with the fabulous people at Little Greene for this makeover and got to choose our paint from the new Colours of England range. You can read all about the planning process and see my mood boards here.

This first post will be all about the decorating process and how we found the paint and then the second post will be more of a room tour post.

After the long winded process of trying to decide the paint colour, the next job was to clear down the walls and wood work ready to paint. This was a simple job of dusting down the walls and ceiling. We then filled holes and sanded these down ready to start painting. When David applied the first coat of the Intelligent Matt Emulsion he was amazed! The coverage after one coat was fantastic and best of all there was no smell! The walls looked gorgeous and not a single paint related fume was in our house!!

With other brands of paint we couldn’t even tell if we liked the colour after the first coat but straight away I was in love! The colour is called Rolling Fog and its a lovely neutral colour that fits in with our open plan living scheme perfectly. It has a slight grey tone as well which ties in with the living room area which is grey and cream.

After the second coat we were left with smooth streak free walls and the colour was exactly what we were expecting. I have found with other projects that the paint on the wall looks nothing at all like the colour on the paint chart! This was definitely not the case here.

We now have lovely freshly painted walls ready to hang some wall art up! The best bit about the Intelligent Matt Emulsion is that its perfect for family space. My children touch the walls with sticky fingers or drop things splashing water onto the wall, with this paint you can wipe the walls and there is no chance of washing the paint away!! This paint is just fantastic not only is it wipeable but its environmentally friendly too! Its perfect for the high traffic areas which is a must for my busy home!

What is your must have when it comes to choosing paint?

Little Greene kindly sent us the paint for the purpose of this review but all words and images are my own.

  1. We’ve got Little Greene intelligent emulsion, in various shades of Welcome, all over the downstairs of our house 🙂 Apart from the snug where we’ve got F&B Downpipe 🙂 You really, really get what you pay for when it comes to paint — I love Little Greene and am a massive fan. I love the colour you’ve chosen Carly! So lovely 🙂 xx #HomeEtc
