Its the middle of May and we are finally getting some sunshine (although as I write this it is pouring down!). We are beginning to think about planning some celebrations to match the season. After Easter Spring seems a fairly quiet season but if you want to spend a sunny Saturday celebrating here are some simple at home celebrations.
Afternoon Tea
My children love afternoon tea at home. They love to set the table with plates of yummy cakes, scones and nibbles. Really it is just a slightly exaggerated lunch! Its easy to create a simple spread using cake stands and platters. Now the weather is better a shady spot in the garden is perfect to set a tea table up. You could go for the full works with sandwiches, scones and cakes; or just a cream tea, plating up warm scones with pots of fresh cream and jam. A simple way to spend some time with family and friends.
Brunch
Another lovely occasion to spend with family and friends is brunch. I like a buffet style brunch where you can linger drinking coffee for as long as you choose. Piles of crisp and flaky pastries, huge bowls of fresh fruit salad, jugs of juices, pots of tea and coffee. Simple food that you can lay out with your best china, napkins and some pretty blooms and enjoy a few hours to relax.
Fathers Day Celebrations
There are lots of fantastic ideas for Fathers Day, Beer tastings, cheese and wine parties, BBQ’s, special breakfasts and sports themed events. I will be sharing some of my favourite ways to celebrate over the next few weeks.
Spring Birthday Themes
We haven’t got any Spring birthdays in our house. Two Summer and two Winter! But if I was to throw an Unbirthday party these would be my favourite themes.
A Peter Rabbit Garden Party- I would have mini wheel barrows full of flowers, bunny cupcakes, seeds and children’s gardening tools for the party favours and sack races as one of the games.

Away with the Fairies- Imagine a tea party at the very bottom of a long garden, mushroom stalls and floral garlands. Making floral headbands and wands would be a must and drinking beautiful mocktails in glasses with edible petals.

Buzzy Bee’s and Bear’s Picnic- A sunshine yellow party full of yummy treats and fun. If you go down to the woods today you will find all the bees and bears tucking into a feast of honey biscuits. Buzzy Bee crafts and cupcake decorating, handmade bunting and a huge naked cake with flowers and little buzzy bees.

Have you anything planned to celebrate at home this Spring?
