Always be a Unicorn- Celebrating Turning 7

These balloons are from Fabulous Partyware

This Unicorn party has been one of my favourites to plan and style. We started with the idea of tea, cake and games for our close family to celebrate R turning 7. I wanted to go more pastel rainbow than bright and in your face; so our colour scheme was cloud white, dusty pinks, lilacs and baby blue. I was thinking sugary sweets and fluffy clouds when I was planning!!

Here are the details and many many photos!!!

Decorations

I started with the amazing personalised Rainbows and Unicorns pack from The Humble Hostess. This came with gorgeous decorations which were my starting point. There were pompoms, bunting, cake picks, confetti, food label/place cards, stickers and a framed birthday sign. All personalised and all absolutely gorgeous. The first thing I did was fluff up the pompoms (clear instructions are provided by The Humble Hostess!) and found as many paper fans as I had, to create the display on the top of the unit. I then made the bunting by threading through the pre-cut holes with the twine. This was hung and the party bags were positioned at the top. Super simple but very pretty!

We created a Unicorn Bar for the drinks using simple decorations and some of the lovely cards from the Humble Hostess pack. I loved having the food label cards to add “Unicorn Water” or “Gluten Free Unicorn” to the food and drinks.

ruby-birthday-028 dsc_0784 Flowers always play a big part in my home; so R and I made some very simple Jam Jars tied with pastel ribbons and full of roses, carnations, tulips and eucalyptus. We added some of the personalised picks here too. Also in the pack from The Humble Hostess was this lovely Happy Birthday sign. I was so impressed it came in the frame… a perfect styling prop.

I loved these Unicorn Balloons from Fabulous Partyware, you get four in a pack and they are so simple to make. I popped each one in a vase of flowers around the house and scattered some colourful confetti around the bottom. The confetti was actually left over from the confetti balloons I also used.

The Dessert Table

I have mentioned lots of times that these American Style sweet or dessert tables are my favourite thing at a party. For this party I decided to use a chest of drawers rather than an actual table. I made a simple balloon arch around the chest using helium balloons that I inflated with an at home kit. They were simply tied to the back with white ribbon.

I opened one of the drawers and added two pink paper bags filled with popcorn and stuck a sticker from the Humble Hostess kit. The cake took centre stage and from that I arranged jars and cups full of pastel sweets and biscuits (party rings, drumsticks, marshmallows, rainbow chews and flumps). For the flump lollies I simply twisted a long flump and fixed with a cocktail stick. Then I pushed a paper straw over this.

I added two plates of cupcakes at either side and then piled more on cake stands on our table.

Food

We served lots of unicorn cupcakes, doughnuts and rainbow birthday cake. Along with tea, coffee and Unicorn Water (pink lemonade)! This was all served on the Gorgeous Rainbow and Unicorn Range from Fabulous Partyware.

We also used the cupcake kit from this range and the cake picks were absolutely gorgeous.

dsc_0781 Games and Activities

We played the usual party games of musical statues and bumps. But the activity that went down really well with all the children was decorate a Unicorn Horn. Which was basically ice and decorate an ice cream cone. They just loved it.

I set each place setting with a little plate with a cone, sweets, sprinkles and icing. I used the food labels from the Humble Hostess kit as name cards and these also worked as labels for the finished horns.

I took lots of photos of the styled table but the first 20 I took hadn’t come out when I went to edit them (complete fail!!).

The Party Bags

I used simple pink paper bags for the party bags, adding stickers from The Humble Hostess to the front. The loot included a unicorn glider, a unicorn chocolate lolly, a flump, a rainbow pencil and unicorn hair bows (lego figures for the big boys and cars for the little ones- not quite as pretty!!).
